The Multiplicative Inverse

The multiplicative inverse of ANY number is a unique number which when multiplied by the first number results in ONE (1).

Before introducing this to your child, be sure they fully understand the entire section of fractions (rational numbers) first.  If they don't they truly will get lost in this area of basic algebra.  And believe me, when they get lost, frustration will kick in very quickly!

For every real number a (except zero), the unique real number 1/a is the multiplicative inverse.

The Additive Inverse is only one of the Properties of Arithmetic your student needs to know.
