The Multiplicative Identity

Before we explore the multiplicative identity, let's first establish what the Identity Property is!

Identity property

The Identity property of an OPERATION is the unique number which when used with the operation on another number does NOT CHANGE that number!

Be sure your child also fully understands the additive identity.  These two properties of arithmetic go hand in hand.

The MULTIPLICATIVE IDENTITY for EVERY number is ONE (1).

Why?  Because if you multiply any number by one (1), it will not change that number.

The Multiplicative is only one of the Properties of Arithmetic your student needs to know.
